Influences

Who makes up the foundation of your life? Where did they come from? What did they believe? Were they willing to fight for it?

Are you?

Who will benefit from the decisions you make? Your children? Grandchildren?

Or will American’s dreams die with you?

Our founding fathers fought for what they believed in.

Some of their names are familiar. Many are not.

Your ancestors and mine each played a role. Whether big or small, we’re thankful for the sacrifices they made so that we could be free.

What will future generations say about us? What sacrifices are we willing to make that give us the right to be called Americans?

What is worthy of a fight?

Truth

How important is it to have the facts straight? How stable would your house be without a foundation? Everything else is built upon it: the floor, the walls, and the roof.

Our founding fathers went to great pains to set up a foundation on which we could build a great nation. Today, some are chipping away at it, making the whole structure weak.

Understanding our past—our foundation—keeps us alert to telltale signs of erosion. A sagging floor here, a crack in a wall there may seem insignificant. Then we notice an extended separation in the brick veneer. A closer inspection by an expert confirms our greatest fears. Our foundation is faulty.

An accurate portrayal of our country’s foundation is important enough that some are seeking to erase it from our history books. Why did our forefathers believe it was important to have checks and balances, freedom of the press, the right to bear arms?

What is at stake if we remain silent while others rewrite history? If we don’t fight to preserve it, the consequences will eventually become clear. I’m afraid that by then, it may be too late.

Philosophy

What is freedom? Why do we believe in it?

What underlying principles drive us to do what we do? Cast our ballet for a particular candidate? Question or submit to authority?

Do our actions confirm or deny what we say we believe? How? Why?

What do we believe and why?

Nearly a century before the American Revolution, John Locke, the philosopher, and his friend William Molyneux of Dublin, penned their musings about the role of government, natural rights, etc., which later inspired the patriots.

What were the philosophical underpinnings of the Declaration of Independence? The Constitution?

Why does it matter? Can’t we just live and let live? Where will that road take us?

Spend time pondering these questions. Their answers are foundational to who we are as a country. Their answers may determine your destiny.
